- i`m not hardware guru dave himself but i should be able to answer some of your
- questions.
-
- OL> I have a question about the "DOE" signal in the bus, in "A500/A2000
- OL> technical reference manual" it says that this signal is ment to be used
- OL> to enable the buffers on the expansionsion board (PIC), and also it says
- OL> that the timing on this signal changes if the buscycle is a read or write
- OL> cycle. The "RKRM: Hardware" does not give me any more clues either.
-
- i quote from amiga hardware reference manual 3rd edition (you should buy
- this reference manuals series. it`ll answer all of your amiga related
- questions) page 415:
-
- "data output enable (doe) this signal is used by an expansion card to enable
- the buffers on the data bus. the bus master drives this line is to keep slave
- pics from driving data on the bus until data time." every pic contains 74fxxx
- drivers, without them the pic won`t match zorro bus timing and voltage
- conditions.
-
- OL> So what I'm wondering is, are there any timing diagrams available where
- OL> you can see exactly how the timg changes, or an exaple as to how you
- OL> actually should use this signal. In the "PIC example" also published in
- OL> the above mentioned book, the signal isn't used at all; it is simply
- OL> stated that that pin (#93) is "reserved".
-
- timing diagrams can be found on pages 416 to 423 in the above stated book.
-
- a pic could work without doe but you can`t be sure that your pic`s bus timing
- is 100% correct. in fact those adaptors using a pee cee harddisk controller
- (omti, seagate) at a fixed address never acknowledged doe. using doe makes
- your design reliable, at least your zorro3 designs.
-
- if you understand german you can find a working zorro2 autoconfig design
- including schematics and pal equations in the c`t magazine (november 1989,
- pages 266 to 272). it`s used for a transputer link interface. some general
- amiga information you`ll find in march/april 1990 mags. check also c`t www
- pages at http://www.ct.de
